Hey thanks for this recap it reminds me of Kota. I wonder how he is doing, I wonder if he and luffy will meet again and if they do will they fight each other or will Kota decide to join up with luffy? Maybe I am just thinking too optimistic since Kota always wanted to be a marine.... Yh maybe he wants to be a marine but I hope he helps luffy in some sort of way like smoker

if they wanted to show flashbacks they should be highlights and they shouldn't be taking multiple episodes they should be summed up in 20 words or less lol

Because it had been a long time and the anime was catching up to the manga. The previous episode (ie: first of this filler arc) was released October 1, 2006 and it covered content that was originally released December 8, 1999. This one was released October 8, 2006 and covered content that was completed March 15, 2000. The next episode will show Nami's backstory which was completed by October 11, 2000. Then there will be an episode of Sanji's (ended June 28th, 2000) and Chopper's backstories (ended December 9, 2001). The Robin recap in episode 283 was ridiculous because it was recapping content up to the episode before the filler arc started but the other stuff was from 6 to 8 years prior.

The manga chapter covered in the episode before the filler arc started was released February 6, 2006. They were less than 8 months from catching up to the manga, so having 5 episodes of filler bought them over a month. I much prefer that type of filler which is easy to skip over what they do now, stretching out content but not having separate filler episodes. The Water 7 arc was 53 chapters of manga and 34 episodes, so each episode covered 1.56 chapters of manga. The most recently completed arc in the anime was 95 episodes to cover 78 chapters, so 0.82 chapters per episode. I'd rather be able to skip a filler episode than just have filler thrown into an episode that includes content important to the plot. Each episode in the recent arcs covers roughly half the content compared to an episode in Water 7.

The choices for long running anime to avoid catching up to the manga are:
1) Take breaks (either seasons or running an episode every other week or put the series on a hiatus.
2) Have filler episodes (like this, the G8 arc, the extra episodes of the Davy Back fight arc,...
3) Slow down the episodes by showing pointless reaction shots, extending the intro/recap, showing someone running seemingly forever to get somewhere, ...
